lf you love cozies, then you'll love meeting my cozy mystery author friends! This month I'm excited to introduce you to Heather Weidner, who writes great cozies. I can't wait to tell you all about her and her upcoming new series. Check out this cover of her latest MURDER STRIKES A CHORD!
Her new series, the Pearly Girl Mysteries just launched in March! So exciting!
Veronica Mars meets The Golden Girls as event planner Cassidy Jamison and her four sixty-year-old employees race to solve a rocker’s murder before the curtains close on their show and their business.
When Cassidy Jamison inherited her late grandmother’s event planning business, she also inherited her grandmother’s friends—four sixty-year-old women known around town as the Pearly Girls—as part-time employees. Now Cassidy barely has time to breathe between spending every waking hour trying to keep her business afloat and the Pearly Girls out of trouble and focused on event planning.
So when she lands a three-weekend event complete with a chart-topping band, she’s thrilled. Until she and her chihuahua mix Elvis find the body of the Weathermen’s lead singer in her venue’s koi pond. With the help of the not-so-helpful Pearly Girls, Cassidy must stave off the bad publicity, navigate the prying questions of the local police department, and solve the murder before the media frenzy shutters her business for good, and takes one of the Pearly Girls with it.
About Heather:
Through the years, Heather Weidner has been a cop’s kid, technical writer, editor, college professor, software tester, and IT manager. She writes the Pearly Girls Mysteries, the Delanie Fitzgerald Mysteries, The Jules Keene Glamping Mysteries, and The Mermaid Bay Christmas Shoppe Mysteries.
Tell us the name of your main characters. If you had to describe them in only three words, what would they be?
Cassidy Jamison - Smart, Pragmatic, Tenacious
Is there something your protagonist can't live without? What and why?
Coffee and her Chihuahua Elvis
Who would play your character in the tv/movie version of your book?
Emma Stone or Bryce Dallas Howard
Does your sleuth have a pet? If so, what's their name and animal type? If not, what kind of pet would they love to have?
Elvis is her fuzzy co-worker who helps her with her sleuthing. He's a brown and black Chihuahua mix.
If your sleuth was giving a tour of your town/setting, where would they take the reader to first? Why did they choose that spot?
The first stop would be her property where she hosts events, Celebrations at Ivy Springs. She has a serenity garden, amphitheater, a glamped up barn, the remains of her family's old honk-tonk, and a cave. The property is nestled in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Staunton, VA.
Any other fun things we should know?
This is my Veronica Mars meets the Golden Girls series. Cassidy inherits the event planning business and the property from her grandmother. Her grandmother's childhood friends, the Pearly Girls (Roxie, Kate, Ruthanne, and Aileen), help with her business (and try to fix her up with any eligible bachelor in the tri-county area).
Now let's find out a little bit about you! Who or what first inspired you to write mysteries?
I have been a mystery fan since Scooby-Doo and Nancy Drew. I am also a CK (cop's kid). I thought everyone grew up talking about murder and mayhem at the dinner table.
Where do you do most of your writing? Do you have any rituals or must-haves?
I mostly write in my office. We live in a wooded community near the lake, so I'm so fortunate to have a big window a great view of the trees. I have to caffeine and chocolate for my writing sessions.
Rapid fire questions!
Tea, coffee, or something else? Iced Tea or Iced Coffee
Cats, dogs, or another animal? Dogs
Dream vacation spot? Maui
Favorite book? (besides your own, of course!) To Kill a Mockingbird
Favorite time to write: morning, afternoon, nighttime? Early Morning
A random fact about you that might surprise readers? I am a pop culture and trivia junky.
